Hi David , how would you like to exchange knowledge ? ex what do you think about the colour of the jigs and the behaviour on medium depths? I find leaf , knife and butterfly jigs of 150 gr working very well. Never caught a fish / a good fish on a 200 gr or 300gr jig at 30 m is that because they dont expect to find anything that big on those depths? Plus i find pink colours working very well on places that hold small snappers and blueish colours on places that hold minnows and that is because i think that you have to give the fish something similar to the thing that is hunting for , what do you say ?

Hello guys.

Pambos, welcome to the forum, glad you can join us.
Like the admin told you, it would have been better if you could just send me an email to discuss jigging since we are
not allowed to post in English here. Sorry Admin :?
But I will try to answer your questions & share my opinion with you.
First, what do you mean by medium depths? 20-50 meters? Those jigs styles you mentioned, knife, butterfly & leaf are
all good producers as are so many others you didn't mention.
What's important is knowing how to animate them because the leaf Jig doesn't swim the same way like a knife jig etc...
Jigging is a very technical game, you have to have the adequate material ( Rod, reel, line ) to be able to move those jigs the
way they were designed to be used and have success.
150 Gr is the weight I normally use and tell my friends to use here in Cyprus. I do use heavier jigs 200 & up when conditions are not
good ( wind, current) & I need to get my jig down quickly to the fish.
In 30 meters, 300 Gr is in my opinion an overkill. I think MAYBE, and I'm just guessing now,the reason you didn't have much luck with those heavy
jigs is because your rod can't handle that much weight. Normally, big jigs, big bait = big fish !!. Assuming there is fish there.
Color wise, up to a certain depth like up to 70 meters, yes I agree with you, I always try to match the hatch like we say back home. Meaning,
use a jig color to match the bait fish available.
After 70 meters I don't crazy about the colors I use rather I pay more attention to the shape & style of the jig since color reproduction in those higher depths
is not a big factor. But blue, green jigs, or both with some phosphoro are my go to weapons in 100 meters & up.
Good luck Pambos & let us know how it goes.

David , i dont agree on private conversations because a forums purpose is that everyone should share opinions , i dont know who made these rules? about the medium depths , yes i am talking about 30 m , the jigs i also prefer are 150gr, you can work with them without killing yourself. I also agree that you have to present the jig properly, the movement and all , but i had some unexpected suprises and catches when i moved it sometimes iregular and i think that ,its because when the fish see the jig moving in the same rythm it doesnt show interest at it .
I have some data of the fish i caught and the most snappers were caught on March and April , that is because i think , i am not sure ,they protect there eggs and they attack on anything nearby .
My favorite jig for the snappers is Zest - Cuttlefish and for the amberjacks the quantum knife , but the shimano jigs are the top ,the problem though is when you loose them .
I will be at the natex exibition in Greece this Sunday if you need anything tell me ,get in contact with Peter he knows my number , if you need anything for example i will buy Jigging Masters Alien, Ocean God , Rocket ,Bassday Nin Chiku and Bottom Ships .I got my eyes also on that little spool that helps you tie the knots with the braid from SHOUT.

Ela Pambos.

Forums = Shared knowledge & exchange of opinions/ideas. I agree with you!
The reason for the private messages like the Admin & I told you is just to keep this section "Greek" only :D

We both agree that 150 gr jigs are very well suited for the kind of jigging we do here in Cyprus, up to a certain depth.
But I still do like to use heavier jigs (200-300gr) in deeper water (120-180 meters) even when the weather is good. The reason for this is I want my jig to
get to the fish holding bottom quickly.
I know Paphos/ latsi area is blessed with fish 8-) It's interesting to know that most of your snapper catches are in March/April.
For me in Protaras, and I'm talking now just about jigging, my best months for sinagrida, fangri & orphos are from Nov-April & etsi ke etsi in May-July with the exception for mineri.
My favorite jigs for snappers are, just to mention a few,Smith Mejiyume & jack-knife R, Sevenseas hooker. For amberjacks, anything long, in blue or geen & jigged at the speed of light :D
Don't waste your money on those bobbin for the PR knot. First they are way to expensive, second there is another way to make your own, the easy way

Thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind. The same goes to you for Protaras.

My biggest problem are the rods , fuji or no fuji guides they dont last long , maybe thats because i didnt buy an expensive one yet , but i'm thinking now for a trevala or a blue rose or a jig wrex of shimano , i will see at the exibition , the other problem is the distance from nicosia to latsi you need a good 2 and a half hours to get there so a one day fishing trip is out of question but we rent a place with 4 beds for 50 euro a night and we fish for the weekend , sometimes, not all the time because of the women .
i never caught anything on an inchiku or a bottom ship yet but i imagine thats because i have to spent more time using it , i caught only drakaina and the other one mbarba - nikolis ,fagri only once on a broken arrow , very deep around 240m.

Good afternoon Pambo :D
When in NATEX have a minute to talk with Βαιος Πουρναρας. He is the agent of ALUTECHNOS and he also stocks Shimano (in fact he is the only person in Greece who knows what the BLUE ROSE is). He can give you a lot of tips as to tackle choice. He knows the subject VERY well.
You will find him at his shop situated at.... Eleftherias Avenue 5, Alimos, Athens 0030 2109855111.
Don't miss the chance

Pambos, stay away from the trevala rods, they should have called them NOODLE rods instead  I have 2 of them back home, one broke, the other is collecting dust in the garage. Too many horror stories that I know of.The blue rose rods made in Japan are WAY better than the ones available for the European market. They also have different model numbers. The jigrex is good value for the money. If you have to get a rod while you are at the show, keep an eye on Smith Ltd, Patriot, Fisherman, Valley hill, jigging master & sevenseas rods.
I caught a lot of fish with the inshikus, especially the bottom ship in 135gr & 160gr. I'm sure Peter already told you about it. It's a deadly weapons on our fish here in CY when matched to the right rod, reel and line.
A slow ratio baitcasting reel with 30LBS braid & 30LBS leader and a semi fast action baitcasting rod and you are set.
Have a safe trip to the show and happy shopping

Ela Pambos.
Smith Ltd makes some really nice sticks. I have the AMJ S54H for up to 150 meters. You are more than welcome to take it for a test drive but just bring it back to me in one piece :D
Again, have a safe trip & talk to you later.

I know you are after the high-end goodies and that shop of VAIOS would be the one place to go in Greece.
There is a lot of BLA BLA down there at Natex every year BUT you will not find any more than a couple of guys who really know what they are talking about.
I am going there on Monday for three weeks and we do plan to do some serious outings 8-) 8-) Lets see
